We deplore the Home Ministry’s decision to allow the two Israel footballers into Malaysia under the pretext that sport and politics should be separated.
This is an outright inconsistency on the part of the Malaysian government which has not relinquished its non-recognition stand of Israel as a state which has been a Malaysian position since its independence.
The 21 organizations has conveyed our reasons in the protest petition on last Friday to the Home Ministry and we have stressed on the atrocity and human rights violation demonstrated by the Israel government on the Palestinian people .
As such the reason stated by the Minster that sports and politics do not mix is outrageous and unwarranted coming from a former Foreign Minster who is fully aware of the grave situation that the Palestinian people are facing.
If the argument is to be accepted that politics do not mix with sports then should it not also not mixed with trade , culture , education , defense and international treaties.?
It is absurd to make such a statement taking into consideration on how Malaysia had stood tall in voicing the plight of the Palestinian. The Minister should not stand too low to be a fan of a game that the killings and bottling up of a hold Palestinian population in the Gaza area takes second priority.
We are adamant on our protest and strongly oppose to the Minister’s approval of the entrance of the Israel citizen in the game to be held in July. We call and demand that the Malaysian government retracts its decision to allow the entrance of the Israel citizen into this country.
