SHURA Press Release
1st October 2011
SHURA condemns with the strongest terms the killing of Anwar Al Awlaki and four others alleged to be a senior Al Qaeda leader in a US air raid drone attack operation on the 30th September 2011 in Yemen.
Officials confirm death in al-Jawf of dual Yemeni-American citizen accused by US of spreading al-Qaeda’s message.
The joint operation by US and the Yemeni military forces is another proof of the colluding of tyrant Arab leaders working hand in hand with the US to murder individuals without any need to provide documented evidence.
The free killing of individuals without any documentation of evidence by the US is most barbaric and cannot be tolerated.
Not only has US violated international law , it is also against its own constitution to protect its own citizen of the right of any person to be legally charged , put on trial and sentenced.
The action of US has set a precedence of extrajudicial killings as being legally permitted by the US law in any part of the world and hence making US a murderous nation.
Hailing as a big success , Presiden Obama has shown to the world the kind ofleadership he is representing to allow American military action worldwide.
Of what evidence has Barack Obama to prove that Awlaki “repeatedly called on individuals in the United States and around the globe to kill innocent men, women and children to advance a murderous agenda”
He has only to justify the killing under the pretext that this is a pre-emptive strike to protect American citizens .
SHURA questions that if such is the case that will US allow other nations to conduct the same operation on US land.
Such hypocrisy is the brand of the US foreign policy which must be condemned by all nations in the world.
The people of Yemen has every right to criticise their government for allowing US drones to attack Yemeni civilians.
We demand that all leaders of Islamic countries worldwide to register their protest and condemnation on the murderous act of the US.
We call for the US to be prosecuted under international law for executing judicial killing in foreign lands.
