STOP THE BLOODSHED , RESTORE DEMOCRACY

Press Release MAPIM
1  st August 2013

The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations ( MAPIM)  registers its strong protest against the Egypt’s cabinet decision for the  police to take “all necessary measures” to end protests by supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi. The cabinet had claimed the demonstrations pose a national security threat.

Even the US who is known to pull the strings in the coup had urged  urged Egypt to respect the right of peaceful assembly.

We support the legitimate right of Morsi’s supporters to demand the reinstatement of Morsi and any security clampdown will spark violence and bloodshed.

The measures announced is questionable since it was  the coup that was in fact  unconstitutional and  unlawful.

It is clear that after the massacre of more than 300 demonstrators , the Morsi supporters  would want to relent from their sit in show of protest and deter from their demand for the reinstatement of Morsi.

Their determination to pursue their demand will be strengthened as the more the unelected government uses force , the more resilient they will be.

Even the Amnesty International had alerted that the government’s decision to mandate security forces to end the pro-Morsi rallies is a “recipe for further bloodshed”.

“Given the Egyptian security forces’ record of policing demonstrations with the routine use of excessive and unwarranted lethal force, this latest announcement gives a seal of approval to further abuse,” said Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui, deputy director for the Middle East and North Africa at Amnesty.

We condemn the high handedness of the security to use force and that the mandate had the potential to add fuel to the current political process and violence and bloodshed is inevitable. The world will see that it is the security forces that has incited violence by continuing to resist the demands of the demonstrators.

We demand that the unelected  cabinet retract the mandate to the police to use force on the demonstrators . Any bloodshed and violence that is expected to erupt should be the full responsibility of the security and the false authorities of the illegal government.
